1. Sustainable Development Goals: World MSME Day 2022
- Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) Day is observed every year on the 27th of June. The theme of MSME Day 2022 is “Resilience and Rebuilding: MSMEs for Sustainable Development”. In April 2017, the United Nations (UN) designated June 27 as the Day of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises through a resolution passed in the United Nations General Assembly.
- A program titled 'Enhancing National Capabilities for Unleashing Full Potentials of MSMEs in Achieving the SDGs in Developing Countries' was organized in May 2017. It is funded by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development sub-fund of the United Nations Peace and Development Fund.
- Policy, technology, leadership, skills, and the entire ecosystem are needed to develop new capabilities, enhance existing ones and prepare for a new world.
2. Rajsthan's Menara Bird village Will become a Wetland
Menar village of Udaipur district, which is recognized as a bird village, has been decided to be notified as a new wetland of Rajasthan. This will pave the way for this rural area of the Mewar region to get the status of the Ramsar site.
Manar Wetland
- The two lakes of Menar village- Brahma and Dhandha host a large number of migratory birds every year. The Forest Department has started the process of notifying Menar as a wetland, which will recognize its role in sediment and nutrient storage and help local authorities in conserving the concerned lakes.
- The two lakes will be strengthened to increase aquatic plants and protect biodiversity with wetland status. More than 150 species of local and migratory birds inhabit both lakes during the winter season. These include the Greater Flamingo, White-tailed Lapwing, Pelican, Marsh Harrier, Bar-headed Goose, Common Teal, Greenshank, Pintail, Wagtail, Green Sandpiper, and Red-Wattled Lapwing. Bird lovers and tourists visit this village after the arrival of migratory birds from Central Asia, Europe, and Mongolia.
Other Ramsar Sites in Rajasthan
- Presently there are two wetlands recognized as Ramsar sites in Rajasthan-
- Keoladeo Ghana in Bharatpur District.
- Sambhar Salt Lake in Jaipur District.
What are wetlands?
Wetlands are areas where water is the primary controlling factor in the environment and is associated with plant and animal life. Wetlands are defined as: "land transitional between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems where water is usually on the surface or the land is covered by shallow water".
3. Kerala Government to Launch MEDISEP medical insurance scheme from July 1
The Kerala government will launch a medical insurance scheme- MEDISEP for state government employees, pensioners, and eligible family members with effect from 01 July 2022. Under this scheme, cashless medical assistance up to Rs.3 lakh per year will be provided.
🖝 For the policy term from the year 2022 to 2024, the annual premium will be Rs 4800 and there will be 18 percent GST. For this, a monthly premium of Rs 500 will be deducted from the salary in June and from the pension after July. An order in this regard has been issued by the state finance department.
4. Anil Khanna Named as Acting President of Indian Olympic association
Recently, Anil Khanna has been appointed as the Acting President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The Delhi High Court has ordered that Narinder Dhruv Batra cannot continue his term as the President of the Indian Olympic Association and Anil Khanna has been appointed as the Acting President.
Veteran sports administrator Narinder Batra was ordered to terminate his tenure as Indian Olympic Association president in contempt proceedings by the Delhi High Court and was asked to step down from the top post a month later. Batra was removed from the post of IOA chief on 25 May 2022.
5. Odisha's public transport service 'Mo Bus' honored with United Nations Public Service Award
Recently Odisha-based public transport service 'Mo Bus' has been awarded the prestigious 'United Nations Public Service Award' for its role and efforts in better recovery of the world from COVID-
19. The awards recognize 10 innovations to help the world better recover from COVID-19.
Ten initiatives from Brazil, Canada, India, Ireland, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Ukraine have been recognized for their innovative public service delivery with the United Nations Public Service Awards and were honored in a digital ceremony organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
The 2022 UN Public Service Award winners were announced by Liu Genmin, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, during an event commemorating the United Nations Public Service Day.
How did Odisha get recognition?
The UN recognition said the problem was that there was a need to improve bus services in the city of Bhubaneswar, as a result of which most people used private vehicles, two-wheelers, and auto-rickshaws instead of taking public transport.
The solution for this emerged as the 'Restructuring of public transport services in the city to provide an integrated, reliable and inclusive public bus service system' launched by the Odisha government in the year 2018. Mo Bus incorporates "real-time technologies like live tracking, travel planner and e-ticketing" and an e-rickshaw system called 'Mo e- ride' is introduced as a feeder service.
6. Tata Power Launches India'sLargest Floating Solar Project:
Tata Group's power company Tata Power Solar Systems has commissioned India's largest floating solar power project at 101.6 MW Peak (MWP) in the backwaters of Kerala. The project is set up on a 350-acre water body in Kayamkulam, Kerala. To make this entire solar plant float on water, Tata Power Solar has constructed a platform on the water body.
The Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) through Power Purchase Agreement project is the first of its kind. This facility is coupled with a floating inverter of 5 MW capacity.
This Central Monitoring and Control Station (CMCS) and 33/220 kV switchyard are supported by 134 cast pile foundations, up to 20 m underwater depth. Its stretcher has been prepared under the dredging system. These solar modules were subject to strong gusts and strong tides, often reaching heights of about 3.5 m, while the sea-connected National Waterway was 15 m deep for 3 km.
7. NASA Successfully Launches a Rocket from the Remote Part of Northern Territory of Australia
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has launched the 'Mini Hubble' telescope from Australian soil. With this, it has created history by launching its first commercial spaceport outside the US. Suborbital-sounding rocket has successfully taken off from Arnhem Space Centre. This is the first NASA rocket to be launched from Australia since 1995.
NASA announced the launch of three rockets from the Arnhem Space Centre, located in the northern region of the Dhupuma Plateau, near Nhulunbuy. All three rockets are 13-metre 'sounding' rockets, which will not reach space orbit but will make scientific observations. The launch will set history in many respects for the Australian space industry.
All three rockets are built by NASA and will be used for scientific investigations into the physics of the Sun, astrophysics, and types of planetary science that we can only do in the Southern Hemisphere.
This agreement with NASA was announced in 2019. However, the launch program has been delayed due to the lockdown and travel restrictions implemented to prevent the coronavirus pandemic.
8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Attends G-7 Summit Held In Germany
the G-7 summit held in Schloss Elmau, Germany. The 48th summit of the G-7 has been organized in Germany on 26 and 27 June 2022. Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India's efforts for green development, clean energy, sustainable lifestyles, and global well-being at the G-7 session on Climate, Energy, and Health.
🖝 Apart from this, the Prime Minister had a bilateral meeting with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa. He will also hold bilateral meetings with the President of Indonesia and the German Chancellor. Modi will also meet the Canadian Prime Minister and the President of the European Union Commission on the sidelines of the summit. Let us tell you that in the year 2021, the 47th summit was hosted by Britain.
Group of Seven (G-7)
It is an inter-governmental organization that was formed in the year 1975. The bloc meets annually to discuss issues of common interest, such as global economic governance, international security, and energy policy. The G-7 countries are the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the US.
All G-7 countries and India are part of the G20. The G-7 has no formal constitution or a fixed headquarters. The decisions taken by the leaders during the annual summit are non-binding.
9. Sao Joao Festival Celebrated In Goa After 2 Years
Recently, the Sao Joao festival has been celebrated in Goa, after 2 years. Sao Joao is also called St. John the Baptist and is celebrated every year on 23 June. The festival is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, who baptized the Lord Jesus on the Jordan River, and is celebrated at the beginning of the monsoon. Siolim, a village in North Goa, hosts a traditional canoe parade on the occasion of Sao Joao.

10. India and UK Announce Commonwealth Diplomatic Academy Program
Recently a joint India-UK Commonwealth Diplomatic Academy program was announced by the Foreign Ministers of the UK and India. It aims to equip diplomats from all Commonwealth member states with the expertise and skills needed to deal with emerging challenges with a global impact.
🖝 This Academy event will be held in New Delhi. This was announced during the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Rwanda, East Africa from June 24 to 25, 2022.

53 members spread over 6 continents. These are the countries that were former colonies of Britain.
🖝 All these countries have signed an agreement for democracy, gender equality, international peace, and security. Its members include 19 countries in Africa, 8 in Asia, 3 in America, 10 in the Caribbean, 3 in Europe, and 11 in the South Pacific.
🖝 It includes about one-third of the world's population and people belonging to different races, religions, languages, and incomes. Of these, about 60% are under 30 years of age. This includes established economies such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, as well as emerging markets such as India, Malaysia, and South Africa.
🖝 The organization is governed by the consensus of member states and is organized through the Commonwealth Secretariat and NGOs. India is the largest member of the Commonwealth of Nations and the fourth largest contributor to its budget.
